How it works
To obtain your personalized Home Energy Audit, you will be asked a series of questions relating to your home and energy usage patterns. The survey takes about 20-30 minutes to
complete, on average.
You will need the following information to complete the audit, so it is useful to have it on hand before you begin:
- Most recent electricity bill - You will need one bill to begin, however, the end analysis and recommendations will be more accurate if you have copies of your bill for the past 12 months.
- Most recent gas bill - You should use one bill to begin, however, the end analysis and recommendations will be more accurate if you have copies of your bill for the past 12 months.
- Types and number of windows in your home (i.e. single pane, double pane, with storm windows, etc.)
- Insulation coverage and quality - which walls are insulated in your home? How much attic insulation do you have (fair, average, etc)?
- Furnace and heating - type, age, temperature settings
- Water heater - type, age, temperature setting
- Lighting - number and type of lightbulbs and estimate of how many hours they are on in a day.
Once you have completed the survey, the tool will calculate where you are spending money, based on your input, and recommend improvements you could make to reduce your costs.
You can stop and save your progress at any time, so don't worry if you don't have all the information at your fingertips. Simply save your progress, and return at a later time.
