Default Supply bills
Default Supply Customers
EPCOR provides default supply to electricity customers in Edmonton and throughout Alberta in communities who receive distribution service from FortisAlberta, including Airdrie, Banff, Brooks, Camrose, Canmore, Edson, Fort Saskatchewan, Leduc, St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Strathmore, Taber, Wainwright, and Whitecourt.
Customers who consume more than 250,000 kWh a year, did not choose a competitive offer, and are not eligible for the RRO are on default supply. These customers pay a flow-through price for their electricity that is based on the pool price, which varies from hour to hour throughout the year.
Electric Energy Charges
The electric energy charge for kilowatt hours used is calculated using the actual cost of electricity for the period covered. EPCOR's default supply energy prices reflect the pool price as well as distribution system losses and power pool trading charges which are part of the wholesale cost of energy. The electric energy charge also includes the administration charge for billing, customer service, call centre and other administrative services.
Delivery Charges
The kWh cost to deliver electric energy using the transmission and distribution service wires owned by the Wires Owner, FortisAlberta Inc.
