Microgeneration
Effective January 1, 2009, Albertans will be able to generate their own environmentally friendly electricity and receive credit for any unused electricity that goes to the electricity grid.
Micro-generation is defined as the generation of electricity energy from a generating unit with a total nominal capacity of one megawatt (1 MW) or less that is connected to the distribution system, and only uses sources of renewable or alternative energy to generate electric energy.
This electric energy output is intended to meet all or a portion of the customer’s electricity needs.
