Alberta Capital Region Master Agreement

Under the Master Agreement with the Alberta Capital Region Wastewater Commission (ACRWC), each regional municipality is responsible for its own infrastructure while the ACRWC looks after the main trunk lines and wastewater treatment on their behalf.

The South East Regional Sewer Trunk (SERT) agreement allows the City to use some of the capacity in the ACRWC's SERT line for the transport of its wastewater in the high growth areas in south Edmonton. The Regional Wastewater Exchange Agreement, which was extended until 2015, allows for the transport of City or regional wastewater to the nearest treatment plant. Essentially, the City of Edmonton and the Capital Region discount each other's flows, amounting to an exchange of services.

A Regional Wastewater Servicing Planning Study addressed short- and long-term technical and financial solutions for regional wastewater treatment and transmission and is the basis for a new Master Regional Wastewater Agreement.
