EPCOR Utilities Inc. owns and operates electrical transmission and distribution networks, water and wastewater treatment facilities and infrastructure. EPCOR is headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta, and employs approximately 2,400 people.
Water and Wastewater
EPCOR provides water and wastewater services to more than one million people in over 70 communities in Alberta and British Columbia. We are enlisted by municipalities and industry to help address the challenge of providing top quality water and wastewater services in a reliable, safe and environmentally responsible manner. Our partners also look to us for design, build, operate and finance options when constructing and upgrading infrastructure.
EPCOR’s partnerships have allowed small communities to maintain public ownership and regulation of their infrastructure, while gaining access to EPCOR’s expertise in innovative design, construction, and cost-effective technology.
Electricity Distribution and Transmission
EPCOR owns and operates high-voltage transmission lines and substations, which form part of the Alberta interconnected electrical system, as well as lower-voltage distribution lines. These are primarily situated in the City of Edmonton. In 2009, EPCOR distributed about 14% of the province’s energy consumption. This includes 300,000 residential and 34,000 commercial customers in Edmonton.
Energy Services
EPCOR also provides Regulated Rate Option electricity to about 600,000 residential and small commercial customers within Edmonton, several Rural Electrification Association Service territories, and the FortisAlberta Inc. service territory. Billing, collection and contact services are provided to the City of Edmonton Waste and Drainage divisions, EPCOR Water Services, Capital Power Corporation, and Alberta Energy Savings L.P.
Technologies
EPCOR Technologies has a long-standing history of involvement with the Edmonton-area LRT system. We provide operations and maintenance services and also, in-house engineering and installation services.
EPCOR Technologies is the contractor for the City of Edmonton’s street lighting design, construction, maintenance and repair services. We installed the City’s first traffic control lights in 1931.
