The Rossdale Water Treatment Plant has been in operation in Edmonton since 1903. The current plant was built in 1947 and expanded in 1955.

- The Rossdale water treatment facility is actually two separate plants:
- Plant #1 was constructed in 1947.
- Plant #2 was built in 1956.
- Rossdale treats approximately 65,000 ML/year.
- The water treatment process includes coagulation, flocculation, filtration and uses free chlorine, chloramine, and UV light for disinfection.
When combined with E.L. Smith, the two plants:
- have a total capacity of 680 million litres per day (ML/d), under average summer water conditions
- currently serve a population of more than 782,000 Edmonton customers and more than 235,000 Regional Area customers
- In Edmonton, water use by each customer group breaks down as follows:
- 215,099 residential and multi-family dwellings consumed 50%
- 17,100 commercial and industrial customers consumed 24%
- 9 wholesale/regional customers consumed 26%
