Gold Bar continues to work with membrane filter technology to enhance wastewater treatment. Membrane filters are a series of porous synthetic strands, resembling drinking straws, with millions of pore openings that are so tiny that not even the smallest bacteria can pass through. The membrane filtration facility, completed in 2005, is capable of producing the highest quality of effluent. It is designed to treat up to 40 million litres daily in anticipation of future industrial and recreational uses. This water reuse project has earned several significant environmental and engineering design awards. Effluent reuse is increasingly important to EPCOR's overall water management plans.
