From cleaning up heavy-metal runoff from an abandoned copper mine on the shores of Howe Sound, British Columbia, to advocating true-cost pricing strategies that promote resource conservation, EPCOR’s mission is to make life better in the communities we serve by providing clean water, and safe, reliable electricity. In doing so, we place an emphasis on caring for the environment.
Our pursuit of excellence has taken us across Canada and the United States to seek better and more environmentally efficient ways to satisfy our customers' energy and water needs.
Protecting the watershed
EPCOR has also invested significantly in watershed protection and wastewater treatment, ensuring our communities can draw safe and clean drinking water now and in the future.

Applying environmental water technologies
In 2006, EPCOR began treating runoff bound for Howe Sound in British Columbia. In its first year, the Britannia Mine Water Treatment Plant removed 250,000 kg of heavy metal that would have polluted the marine environment.
The Sierra Legal Defence Fund refers to Edmonton as a city renowned for the high quality of its water treatment in Canada's Drinking Water Report Card, October 2006.
EPCOR is a Canadian leader in installing and operating new water treatment technologies. Edmonton was the first major Canadian city to enjoy drinking water treated with ultraviolet disinfection, later bringing the technology to smaller communities and advising others on installation.
