We have proudly provided drinking water to the Edmonton region for over a century and are committed to ensuring that our customers can continue to rely on their water system now and in the future.
Maintaining a sustainable supply of drinking water entails balancing the environmental, social and economic needs of the community. EPCOR's long term strategy is based on an integrated approach to achieving water use stability and includes implementation of a wide range of industry best management practices. Details are provided in Edmonton's Long-Term Water Efficiency Report 2010-2030.
We want our customers to understand their energy and water consumption and find ways to reduce it. In this section you will find tips and tools to help you save water around your home, farm or business.
Water conservation
Did you know?
- The average single family Edmonton household has about 2.4 people, consumes 18.5 cubic metres of water per month and pays around $26 per month for water usage (not including fixed fees or sewage charges).
- Most water-efficient dishwashers use 39% percent less energy to heat the water and 39% percent less water than standard models.
- If certain portions of your lawn seem overgrown or especially green, you may have a leak.
Some random tips:
- When cleaning fruits and vegetables, don't run the tap continuously. Instead, wash them in a partially filled sink, then rinse them quickly under the tap.
- Choose plants, shrubs, and trees that, when fully mature, will require little additional irrigation and will fit in with the landscape so that minimal pruning is required.
- Toilet fixtures are the largest single water using fixture in the home, and in many commercial/industrial facilities. New 6 litre per flush toilet fixtures offer very large savings over existing 20 litre per flush toilet fixtures.
