A Power System Upgrade for the Grandview Heights Community began in May 2010, in order to continue to provide safe and reliable power service to residents in the neighbourhood. It is expected that all upgrades will be completed by Fall 2011.
The Power System Upgrade involves the replacement of underground cable and placement of new transformers (3ft by 3ft boxes) above ground on public lands adjacent to residential properties in the community. The replacement of underground cable will require some trenching and directional drilling that may temporarily disturb some paved and landscaped areas in the neighbourhood.
Transformers, which are the standard for newer neighbourhoods in the city, replace the underground vaults that are currently in use in this neighbourhood. This allows for easier access to the system and reduces service repair time. Once construction is completed, EPCOR will restore any areas impacted by construction activity.
The goal of the project is to conduct all work in a safe and efficient manner and to mitigate, where possible, impacts to residents living in the area.
Open House
EPCOR hosted an Open House on Wednesday April 20, 2011 from 2:30 to 6:30 pm at Grandview Heights Community Centre (12603-63 Avenue). It was an opportunity to ask questions, provide feedback and learn about upcoming construction in the community and locations of Phase III transformer pads.
