Quality Assurance
EPCOR’s Water Laboratory provides analytical services to users and suppliers of drinking water and wastewater.
EPCOR’s laboratory team is highly experienced. In fact, EPCOR’s quality assurance laboratory scored the highest among 68 labs across Canada and the U.S. in tests administered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 2008. Most of the labs were in major U.S. cities. EPCOR in fact did so well in this testing that the EPA took notice and contacted us to find out the secret of our success.
EPCOR’s lab is also accredited by the Canadian Association for Laboratory Accreditation Inc. the highest level for an environmental lab in Canada. It’s one of only two in Canada accredited by the EPA for testing of Cryptosporidium and Giardia.
A History of Partnership
With more than 100 years of operational excellence, EPCOR is one of the largest and most experienced water companies in Canada, providing services to over one million people in more than 60 communities and industrial sites.
More information on municipal partnerships is available.
Quality Assurance
EPCOR's Water Laboratory provides analytical services for a wide range of parameters of interest to both users and suppliers of drinking water and wastewater.
Our lab is CAEAL accredited which is the highest level for an environmental lab in Canada.
The laboratory, located at the Rossdale Water Treatment Plant in Edmonton, Alberta, has 25 staff and is well equipped with GC-FID, GC-ECD, GC-MS, HPLC, GC-MIDI, GFAA, TOC, ICP, IC, UV-Vis, BIOLOG, MICROTOX, and Particle Count instrumentation.

Other Services
These services are devised primarily for municipal/community drinking water supply agencies, but can also be provided to industrial/commercial users, private citizens, or for non-potable water uses.
- Water Quality Evaluation Raw and treated waters can be tested and evaluated for treatability and identification of water quality problems.
- Water Plant Process Evaluation Plant process units can be evaluated for removal of contaminants of concern by comparison of influent/effluent water quality.
- Modeling Treatment Options Using raw water quality data, various treatment options can be computer modeled to find a process that can best meet requirements.
- Pilot/Bench Testing of Options Using supplied raw water, treatment options can be tested at bench scale to provide data on expected performance.
- Lab & Method Setup Advice can be provided on the setup of a lab, on setup of lab equipment and development of analytical methodology.
- Quality Assurance Program for Analytical Tests Advice can be provided on setup of a QA program for validation of analysis.
- Other Water Quality Problems Water problems in swimming pools, wells, hot tubs, humidifiers, ventilation/air conditioning systems, and home treatment devices can also be evaluated.
